Temporary installation at the first annual “Interventions” conference by Scout, design studio at Northeastern University
I was so honored and excited when Scout, the student-led design studio at Northeastern University, reached out about me creating an installation for their first ever Interventions conference.
I coordinated with Scout about the overall message, and the specific typeface (Rubik) and colors (navy, lavender, teal, and soft red). Taking advantage of my job as a laser monitor in the art building's makerspace, I designed and lasercut multiple stencils to sketch all the letter outlines. Over the next day and a half, I used purple paint markers to fill the panel with organic squiggles. Yes, there were many hand cramps.
Thank you again to Scout and the Interventions team. Every single person I talked to at Scout was delightful and talented, and I can see why their studio is so successful. The conference team did an absolutely incredible job—the conference was a resounding success, and I heard professional designers call it one of the best conferences they've attended. It was definitely life-changing for me, and I've attended every year since.
Don't forget: design is everywhere!
